Wig Care

1. Washing Your Wig

  • Frequency: Wash your wig after 8-10 wears, or sooner if it starts to look dull or tangled.
  • Detangling: Before washing, gently detangle the wig using a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush, starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots.
  • Shampoo: Use a sulfate-free, wig-specific shampoo. Fill a basin with cool water, add shampoo, and gently swish the wig in the water. Avoid rubbing or twisting the wig to prevent tangling.
  • Rinse: After washing, rinse the wig thoroughly with cool water to remove all shampoo.
  • Condition: Apply a small amount of wig-specific conditioner, avoiding the roots to prevent product buildup. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with cool water.

2. Drying Your Wig

  • Blotting: Use a clean, soft towel to gently blot the excess water from the wig. Do not wring or twist the wig.
  • Air Drying: Place the wig on a wig stand to air dry. Avoid using a blow dryer as heat can damage the hair. If necessary, use a blow dryer on a low-heat setting only on human hair wigs.
  • Styling: Allow the wig to air dry completely before styling.

3. Storing Your Wig

  • Wig Stand or Mannequin Head: Store your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head to help maintain its shape.
  • Protect from Dust: If you’re not wearing your wig for an extended period, store it in a satin or silk bag or box to keep it dust-free.
  • Away from Heat & Sunlight: Keep your wig in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid fading and damage.

4. Styling Your Wig

  • Brushing: Always use a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush when styling.
  • Heat Tools: For human hair wigs, you can use heat tools, but be sure to apply a heat protectant spray beforehand to avoid damage.

5. Avoid Harsh Chemicals

  • Hair Products: Only use wig-specific shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. Regular hair products can damage wig fibers.
  • Sun & Chlorine: Protect your wig from harsh sunlight, saltwater, and chlorine. If you plan to wear your wig outside for extended periods or in swimming pools, consider wearing a scarf or hat for added protection.

6. Detangling and Maintaining

  • Detangling: If your wig becomes tangled, use a detangling spray designed for wigs. Start combing from the ends and work your way up, using gentle strokes to avoid pulling or tearing the fibers.
  • Regular Maintenance: Regular brushing and proper storage can extend the lifespan of your wig. Be consistent in maintaining the wig after every wear.

7. Repair & Revitalization

  • Human Hair Wigs: If a human hair wig starts to lose its luster, you can deep-condition it to restore moisture and shine. For excessive damage, consider taking the wig to a professional stylist.
